In 2007, I started my professional career as an audit associate in the assurance division of Crowe Horwath, a public accounting firm in Kuala Lumpur. As an auditor in a medium sized accounting firm, I was exposed to various industries in audit assignment with due diligence from manufacturing, services to technological industries and statutory audit to company valuation exercise for IPO purposes. After concluding 3 years’ of public practice, in 2010, I’ve joined Schlumberger in its then newly set up financial hub in Malaysia. My first assignment as management accountant of Australasia region, were to migrate the accounting closing processes from office in Australia to Malaysia. Finance shared service was a relatively new term in Schlumberger back then, thus the success of this centralization exercise set precedence to an enlarged shared services hub to include more functions and processes outside finance. Equipped with past migration experience and being able to adapt to company culture and operating expectation swiftly, I was assigned to lead a group of accountants for another finance migration project for a newly acquired subsidiary of Schlumberger, covering Continental Europe region. As a pioneer lead of the finance migration project, I was involved in the complete process of planning stage, on-field migration and post-migration stabilization.
Currently, I am based in Bangkok as segment financial controller covering the region of South East Asia (previously Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam). Other than the usual responsibility of financial management and internal controls, as a financial controller, my key job objectives includes ensuring relative growth of business compared to competitors while protecting margin of earnings. Oil field industry is a fast paced and high pressured working environment due to its advanced technological and human capital investment. Therefore, I need to have continuous learning and hard work traits with the ability to be able to present an idea confidently to a diverse population of stakeholders that will set one further in the organization.
