Having educated students who excelled in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (‘ACCA’) examinations since the commencement of its business programme in 1971, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR University College’) is highly regarded for its outstanding reputation in providing solid business education. The enviable track record trail-blazed by its Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business is given another shot in the arm with the excellent achievements attained by its two students in the recent ACCA June 2014 examination.
The two most recent top achievers in the ACCA June 2014 examination are Ms Amanda Ng Wen Si, a Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) graduate from Penang Branch Campus and Ms Ooi Yee Tong, a student of the Advanced Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Accounting), Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. They grabbed the Top 1 Affiliate and Top 2 Affiliate positions in Malaysia respectively. Top Affiliates are awarded based on total marks obtained for the 5 Professional Level papers sat and passed in the first attempt.
Top ACCA Affiliates
When interviewed, Amanda exclaimed: “I felt very honoured to have received this award to become the Top 1 ACCA Affiliate in Malaysia as I did not expect it.” As to how she answered the questions in the professional papers, she said: “I followed the lecturer’s advice on how to tackle the examination questions. Basically, the professional level papers require some critical thinking in resolving the problems.”
Amanda expressed her gratitude towards her lecturers whom she felt possessed high levels of professionalism in teaching. “My lecturers taught me a lot of technical and analytical skills so that I would score high marks. On the whole, I believe TAR University College lecturers are highly capable of inspiring and developing more accountants for the future.”
Amanda had much to say about the syllabus or academic curriculum that was offered at TAR University College and how it had prepared her for the examination. “The lecturers self-prepared notes which are examination-focused. The study text, past year questions and answers enabled me to have a thorough understanding of the topic. Besides that, my lecturers also taught me how to write a good, analytical answer within the time limit.”
Her advice for juniors who are pursuing the accounting programme would be to have a clear objective, which is to pass the ACCA examination within the allocated time. “Listen to your lecturers’ advice and follow their instructions. Effort and hardwork are required if you want to achieve good results. There is no short cut to success.”
The other lass, Ooi Yee Tong, added that TAR University College provides a very peaceful and conducive study environment. “I find that when I am at the library, my concentration optimises.” Yee Tong concurred that the key to doing well is to study consistently, so that one does not feel stressed out when the examination is approaching.
Meanwhile, Yee Tong commended her lecturers for being experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated in imparting their knowledge, not only in content, but also the spirit of the subject.
The recent achievements by TAR University College students demonstrate the quality teaching and programme delivery in preparing students for ACCA qualification. TAR University College has a longstanding relationship with ACCA that dates back to 1971. The University College had just recently been conferred yet again the ACCA Platinum Status for 2014 until 2015, which is the highest level of accreditation from ACCA to universities and colleges globally under the ACCA’s Approved Learning Partner – Student Tuition programme. This recognition is awarded based on the outstanding performance of TAR University College students exceeding the worldwide pass rates and effectively puts TAR University College in the top 5% of ACCA tuition providers around the world. The University College is also the only institution in the world approved by ACCA to run the Internally Assessed ACCA Fundamentals (Skills Module) programme for all the 9 Modules of ACCA Fundamentals.
